Usain Bolt is a super hero, as he abruptly stopped a television interview that was about him and stood reverently, quietly and respectfully during our United States National Anthem to pay tribute to something larger than himself. This is one of the reasons I love my NBA Utah Jazz. While many of the professional and NCAA football and basketball players barely stand for our Star Spangled Banner and don’t put their hands over their hearts and talk or move around – because our Jazz owner Larry H. Miller and his former President Randy Rigby EXPECTED our Jazz players to stand at attention, each and every one of our players puts his hand over his heart and sings if he chooses.
What an awesome sight to see millionaire athletes publicly pay tribute to the men and women serving our country in the military, and especially honoring those who gave their lives beginning in the Revolutionary War, whose service our flag represent! Thank you Usain Bolt for your example. America’s athletes, especially the thugs playing professional football and basketball who can barely read, speak and write, who end up bankrupt because they spend it all on themselves instead of serving others and investing in their communities and something larger than themselves, need to follow in your amazing footsteps!!
God bless America! God bless Jamaica! God bless every patriotic American athlete like Katie Ladecky, Simone Biles, Michael Phelps and Ashton Eaton who understands and exemplifies the Core Values of the United States Military illuminated in the ten word acronym LEADERSHIP: Loyalty, Excellence (in all you do), Attitude, Duty, Engagement (present in every moment), Respect, Service (before self), Honor, Integrity (first), and Personal Courage! Remember sports heroes, America is the land of the free BECAUSE of the brave men and women in uniform, military leaders, civil servants, and ethical/moral/God fearing elected officials who have positively responded to the timeless words of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country!”
I am proud to be an American as our Gold, Silver and Bronze medals won in this Olympics represent so much more than the athletes who won them!!! The real super stars of the Olympics worked hard, sacrificed, ran, jumped, threw, pedaled, swam, kicked, shot, hit, dove and hustled for their God and Country that gave them the opportunity to compete!!! May we all work as hard and push ourselves as far to become everything we were born to be, that we may also be the role models that Usain Bolt shows us we can and should be!!
